'Gastric inhibitory peptide' or 'glucose-dependent insulin-releasing peptide' (GIP) is a member of the gut hormone family. Its physiological action is thought to be related to its insulinotrophic effect. Gastric inhibitory polypeptide (glucose-dependent insulin-releasing polypeptide) has a similar effect, in particular at concentrations close to the physiological level in blood. The nutrient-dependent glucagon-like peptide-1 amide (GLP-1) release was studied in comparison to the glucose-dependent insulin-releasing polypeptide (GIP) response. The GIP antiserum used did not cross react with either pancreatic-type or gut-type glucagon (GLI).
